Gaming Rant

I find myself annoyed with many aspects of modern day gaming, especially in the mainstream. I was reading through Gamespot.com and stumbled upon their original Ocarina of Time review. After reading through this, I've noticed that a lot of elements that led to the perfect 10 score are not what factor into games' scores today.

The review mentions that while the game is very linear, you still have the ability to explore as you move through it. I've seen so many games getting 7-8's that have similar linearity to OoT. However, as part of the reasoning for the lower score, the linearity is mentioned.

Graphics. Oh graphics. The bane of all Nintendo hard cores. Obviously it is a little unfair to compare N64 era graphics to modern times. However, I'm sick of the HD standard. I'm sorry, but only an idiot would deny that games like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Brothers Brawl are gorgeous. Yes, technically they are not HD. But HD is not always good. I go to Gamestop and the PS3 display hurts my eyes. Yes, it is "excellent" HD graphics, but the demos on display are not visually pleasing. My favorite phrase for HD gaming is to say that a piece of poo is still a piece of poo no matter how good it looks. If a game as good game play, graphics are something that can easily be over looked. Now, don't misunderstand me. I currently have a 360 in my care and I am anxious to play it on my parents HD tv. I don't enjoy that we live in a time where only those who grew up with simpler games will even touch a non HD game.

Sequel. Many sequels get harped these days for being too similar to their predecessors. However, Ocarina was praised for sticking to its roots. Contradictions from what once made a 10/10 game to why a game gets a lower score.

Anyway, I could go on more but I've grown bored and want to play Guitar Hero now (Cody bought world tour ^_^)

Boredom

I'm rather bored right now. I've been watching Death Note for a while now, but since I already read the manga its not super attention grabbing. I'm not even sure if that was a grammatically correct phrase.
Anyway, I hate my phone right now. It refuses to work and I am getting really annoyed about that. Over Thanksgiving, my dad is going to give me his phone and he'll just have to use his work phone. I appreciate this, even if it means telling everyone that I have a new number. His phone hasn't given him a single problem in over a year. My phone has already been replaced once in that same time period (for the same problem it's having now.... only it is no longer under warrenty). Hopefully this will all work out. His phone isn't anything fancy, but with the amount of problems fancy phones seems to get, I'm ok having a plain old ordinary phone. As long as I can call people and text. Heck, I don't really need to have the camera function. I usually lose those pictures eventually anyway.
Speaking of which, its interesting to see all the new smart phones coming out. I do get annoyed when people call the iphone the original smart phone. What was Blackberry then? A dumb computer? I'd like to hear the reasoning sometime.
Well, that's all I have to say right now.

Tag?

* Link to the person who tagged you (Chelsie )
*Post the rules on your blog
*Write six random things/unspectacular quirks about yourself
* Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them
* Let each person you have tagged know by leaving a comment on their blog
* Let the tagger know when your entry is posted
Um... this seems rather random but ok then!

1. I spend a lot of time on the internet, just wasting away. Most of what I do is read various webcomics. Some of these I read over and over. Its really pathetic the number of times I've read some of the archives of these comics.

2. I play video games a lot. Some of them over and over as well. I guess I'm the kind of person that can if I enjoyed it once I can enjoy it again. With the video games however, if I find a good game I will get sucked it completely until I beat it. Example: August 2005 I bought Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube. I played this game only stopping for food, bathroom, and when my parents made me go to bed for a full week until I beat it. The exception is when I let my sister play for a little while and she overwrote my file that had a 12 hour play time on it already. Needless to say I was very ticked off.

3. I get very angry at other drivers when I'm by myself. If others are in the car with me I'm usually fine, but when its just me I yell at just about every person that does something I don't agree with. Probably not healthy, but oh well.

4. um.... I'm running out of ideas. Shoot. Well I started wearing my swim suit for pajamas since moving up to USU for college. My parents thought that was really weird when I was home for Fall break and did the same thing.

5. I'm really paranoid about stuff. Like if someone invites me to their house, in the back of my mind there's the thought "what if they're kidding? what if they want to trick me? what if that wasn't really them who sent the text message?" things like that. Completely and totally unfounded, but I think it anyway.

6. I almost always wear the same basic thing: t-shirt, jeans, converse. While the converse has only been the past 2 years, the t-shirt and jeans has been the case since I first starting dressing myself. Obviously there are times I have to wear something different (church, band concerts, etc.) but when given the choice I'll usually revert back to a t-shirt and jeans. I really see nothing wrong with this type of outfit.

Well I guess that's it. I can't really tag anybody cuz the only person I know with a blog is Chelsie and she tagged me so... yeah, guess I'll just skip that part. :P

WELCOME!

Well I'm pretty bored right now. So rather than pay attention in chemistry, I started a blog! Sounds like a good idea, doesn't it? Very very good idea.....

ANYWAY!

I'm Nick. You probably knew that already. I'm a freshman here at Utah State University. I enjoy playing video games and surfing the net mindlessly. As much as I am on the internet, you think I might have started a decent blog on here much sooner than I already did. I guess I let the paranoia get to me. A lot of people, including some of the professors here at USU, seem to be thinking lately that you need to be careful what you say on a blog because future employers may look up the blog. However, it makes me wonder how they can prove that this is the same person. I could have just made a blog and called myself Cody Haslem or Allen Stephens! (they're my roommates) I can understand how an employer might be looking up things about their employees to know more about the true nature of their potential employees, however it is my opinion that a web log is not the best place to look.

I also wonder what things employers are looking for that they would find in a blog.... I mean, are you looking to see if someone is calling themselves a communist or something? I'm not, but.... I can't think of much that would really be that crucial an employer that they would find in a blog.

Lastly, will I actually update this on a regular basis or will this be the only existing post? Only time will tell!
